In 1962 Andy Warhol, a famous pop artist, painted 32 Campbell's soup cans. One of each variety offered at the time.
In an interview as to why he painted soup cans, his reply was that he had soup every day for lunch. Then he was asked by an art critic whether he really did the soup can paintings because “you had soup for lunch every day?” Warhol's reply: “Oh yeah, I had Campbell's soup every day for lunch for about 20 years. And a sandwich.”
Not satisfied with the artist's answer, another art critic asked these probing and burning questions: “Why would painting a picture of something that one had for lunch every day be considered art? Why choose the soup over the sandwich? Why represent a can of soup rather than a bowl of soup?”
Why? Why? Why?
Finally, someone came along with enough significance to satisfy any art critic. He stated : “He wanted to paint NOTHING. The concept of nothingness has been circulating for some time in the United States through the popularization of Zen Buddhism and Existentialism. Existentialism was embraced by both the Beat movement of the 50's and the Hippie movement of the 60's. Jean Paul Sartre said..............” (and it goes on for pages)
If a soup can can be made so complicated, what about a fellow member of the human race?
Over the millenniums, thousands of religions, philosophies and mental therapies have been dissecting, explaining and advising us crazy critters-- enough to fill libraries. Of the ones I've read, many have been interesting, some brilliant, insightful and helpful. And some destructive and others downright weird and incomprehensible (would someone please explain Deconstructivism?)
However, NONE of these have gotten rid of the reactive mind, much less as-ised one lousy, bothersome mental image picture. That is until L. Ron Hubbard came along. In order to really fully understand and help a being, both mass and significance have to be understood. Take a look at what he has to say in C/S Series 6, 16 June 1970:
Mental masses, forces, energy, are the items being handled by the C/S on any pc.
If the C/S loses sight of this, he can wander off the road and go into the thickets of significance.
Engrams, secondaries, locks, all add up to mental masses, forces, energies, time, which express themselves in countless different ways, such as pain, misemotion, feelings, old perceptions and a billion, billion thought combinations buried in the masses as significances.
A thetan can postulate or say or reason anything. Thus, there is an infinity of significances.
A thetan is natively capable of logical thought. This becomes muddied by outpoints held in by mental forces such as pictures of heavy experiences.
As the masses and forces accumulated and copied from living build up, the logic potential becomes reduced and illogical results occur.
The pc is continually searching for the significance of a mass or force—what is it, why is it.
The C/S is easily led astray by this.
All forces in the bank contain significances.
All forces can be unburdened and lightened up by the various procedures of auditing.
The search of the pc is for significance.
The action of the C/S is reduction of forces.
It doesn't matter how well educated you are or how much money you have, how much you have expanded your mind or how brilliant, or even how ethical you are, those forces can still be your master. They are the invisible hands that pick up those cookies and stuff them into your mouth when on a diet. They are the strange aches and pains for no apparent reason. The times that you suddenly felt sad. It's what can bring you to your knees.
And boy, can those forces affect one's thinking. A person who is under “2 tons of bricks” is just going to think differently from someone who runs around “light as a feather”.
Very seldom have I seen a couple “significance” their way back to a sane 2D once it has broken down. No matter how many Dr. Phil shows are watched, Cosmopolitan magazines are poured over, or deep, endless analysis sessions of how nuts the other is with friends and family, it takes Scientology marriage counseling to as-is the mental masses and the crazy think embedded in them. Suddenly the “loved one” that was being described in Satanical terms is now an angel who can do no wrong after the auditing.
As Scientologists, we are in the throes of a major 3rd Dynamic engram due to the takeover of our group and the altering of our Technology by David Miscavige. Significances are abounding with how and why. Fortunately, we have a number of forums to discuss and explore them.
More importantly, though, we have a lot to audit. The power of an SP comes from his ability to restimulate. If there were no case, Miscavige could not have gotten us to go along with all his insane stuff, at least for any length of time. I remember after doing some so-called Golden Age Tech, my first thought was “what a complete waste of time that was and why the hell did I do that??!.” He has turned loved ones against each other , turned auditing into a torture chamber and left us broke and very betrayed. He used a beautiful purpose to enslave us. Believe me, there is a lot from the track to stir up and take over a person and Miscavige instinctively knows this like any good SP.
It is important to understand the What and Why of any mess we get into. Training is vital and is 50% of the handling. The other 50% is auditing, which when done standardly, gives us the ability to achieve simplicity in our views and the power to handle the incredible complexities life throws at us. Thinking is easy again. Even an art critic with enough great auditing could look at a soup can and SEE a soup can, like the rest of us.

“As the only crime in the universe seems to be to communicate, and as the only saving grace of an awareness of awareness unit is to communicate, we can readily understand that an entanglement of communication is certain to result. What we should understand – and much more happily – is that it can now be resolved.”

Gayle VI Auditor & C/S
My track was full of training and not enough auditing and I am now balancing that out with Standard Tech and I feel much BETTER!
I've been auditing and training over the past couple of years and noise just seems to fall away as life gets less complex.
Thank you Ingrid for your application of Scientology to others. One special other to me, is very, very happy with you doing what you do.
There really is nothing like auditing. In the past some weeks I've watched that TA blowdown and go into a float on standard processes, and each time it sends shivers up and down MY spine as an auditor. Pleasant shivers. It is an incredible technology that can deliver to a being that relief and joy, for all involved :-)
A brilliant piece of writing, and what Ingrid says is true. TR's, HQS, and Obnosis Drills, and you're on your way to a more stable life.
Thank you, Ingrid.
The thing I love about LRH is his ability to look at something and see the simplicity of what he sees - and then to convey that to us, in such a way, that understanding and duplication occurs.
Thanks Ingrid!
Thank you!

I like the way you're writing.
You're an Artist, Ingrid. I knew this when I visitet your own Blog for the first time.
I like the way you're writing.
All best to you,
SKM
I am really happy Lana yesterday reminded me of this blog as I am also looking for a place where sanity reigns and where the good "old fashioned" Scientologists can post without being smeared or even attacked.
Other blogs provide some news and views and few stick to LRH and his core actions and ideas, as if those are passé. I cannot have that. I know how many wins I got just from wordclearing and doing away with so much significance.
I am looking forward into building a 3rd dynamic who is going to be expanding and active in the field. Life can be very different when people come together and apply the Tech helping each other. What is a 3rd dynamic without any Scientology. It would be a "normal" 3rd dynamic as those we all knew before we got into Scientology. Under Miscavige we got to know the other opposite. A crazy 3rd dynamic. We can make a difference and really make it into a sane, normal and a great 3rd dynamic. Even through the net for starters.
Thank you again for this beautiful article.
The level of compassion, empathy and personal integrity that are required by an Auditor to truly have his Act One in are simply awe-inspiring. No wonder LRH admired and respected Auditors so much. You truly are the most valuable beings on the planet!
To me, Scientology always represented life in it's simplest, most inspiring form. Complexity does not inspire creativity - just the opposite.
