By Tom Martiniano,

The Sea Org was established on 12 August 1967 by L Ron Hubbard, initially on board three ships, the Diana, the Athena, and the Apollo. In 1971, it assumed responsibility for the ecclesiastical development of the church, and in particular for the upper levels, known as the “OT levels.” LRH’s hallmark “Ron’s Journal 1967” was recorded aboard the Apollo after LRH completed his research into OT III. Shortly after LRH disbanded WW Management and turned the duties of establishing and running Scientology to the Sea Organization. From then until 1975 Scientology experienced unprecedented expansion a boom never seen before or since. Tens of thousands of people per week were going free and experiencing case gain. Scientology was delivering like never before. The Sea Org moved to land bases in 1975, set up management in Clearwater Florida. Scientology continued to expand until it was commandeered and used for something else.

I was staff in Detroit Org from 1971 until 1978. I worked as Qual Sec, HGC auditor, Supervisor and every now and then as an executive. When I took over as Qual Sec after the Day/Foundation split in 1973, I recruited 14 staff for Qual and we ran the org all the way to St Hill size in 1974. Our org ran like a well-oiled machine, running all-hands body routing, all-hands intro lectures, regging and supervising on the basic courses in order to stuff the academy with students. I then supervised the academies 60+ students and put everyone through the Primary Rundown, after which they became “Super Literate.” As a result we had 22 Intern auditors in the HGC and we delivered 850 in-the-chair hours per week with a million student points in the academy alone per week. We had so much fun producing that no one really wanted to take a day off be because it was more fun to produce in the org than it was to do something else. Detroit was good Boot-Camp Training because we really learned how to “Play the Piano” and put all the functions together to boom Scientology in our area and we did.

In 1984 I became a manager at the Flag Bureaux. Dave Henderson was the CO and I was the D/CO. We worked out a strategy in that he ran Scientology International and I would run the Sea Org Int and FLB/FSO. It worked and within a few short months LRH declared Scientology in a state of affluence and ordered us to isolate our successful actions and write a program for them. We did. I had written the strategies for the Sea Orgs and FSO and then implemented them with programs or evaluations as needed. Management was simple and worked like a dream in the hands of sane people like myself and Dave Henderson.

After I left the Sea Org I joined up with a few entrepreneurs who had a retail company but didn’t know how to expand it. I took the Model of admin Know-How (A WISE establishment program), implemented it and we went from a $440,000 per year org in 1998 to $25,000,000 per-year org by 2001. To me it was easy as pie – I just applied policy.

Anyone who knows me knows I’m a rebel; no one tells me what to do. Not even L Ron Hubbard. But I’m smart enough to know who winners are and who losers are. I know that I applied LRH Management tech inside Scientology Organizations and then outside Scientology Orgs and it always worked better than anything else I read or tried. Why re-invent the wheel? The wheel is already there and abundantly available. So when I find someone telling me to “look elsewhere” or “try other things”, I know this person is a loser because this person never applied the tech like we did to boom Scientology, like we did.

Yes, in the wrong hands, Scientology Management and the Sea Org can become suppressive/oppressive groups in themselves. But like anything that is run by suppressives it itself becomes suppressive. Just like in the hands of psychotics, assault weapons can kill a lot of people, but in the hands of sane people, they do not kill.

We can boom Scientology again. It is very easy and I am willing to help anyone who wants to see Scientology grow. Just contact me and we will take the “rocket-ride”.

Very good article. Third dynamic tech is most important. One cannot put out one’s own shingle forever. Sooner or later one is going to need support.

Good article Tom. You nailed it: “Management was simple and worked like a dream in the hands of sane people…….”

It seems like it’s been plainly laid out when changes occured, what they were, who did it and what the results were. There’s a lot of data out there to be looked at and it seems pretty obvious to me that things started to go downhill after LRH left and continue to go down to this day. There’s quite a few people who were there who have confirmed this.
In 2009 Marty Rathbun described the effects of David Miscaviges leadership. At 3:40 he describes the international delivery statistics after Miscavige took over.
So if one is doing some sort of “eval” or trying to get to the truth, why assume it’s something other than that?

Tom, you make me regret missing those early 70′s in Scientology. I thought I had it good in Sydney during an Affluence there in 78 + 79. But the stats were not even half what you had and it was starting to be an effort.
Anyway, I’ve seen enough to know you are absolutely right. Scientology policy is the distillation of the most powerful admin tech in the universe. Thanks for this bit of inspiration.

This dove tails with an issue I was reading the other day on Essay on Managment August ´51 Red Vol I – LRH describes when and why a Goal Dreamer-Management-the Group or all of them go into a demise. This issue exposes how Organizations, Companies and even Civilizations cease to operate well. It matches what Tom expressed in his write up.

Awesome post, Tom. Reading it brought back recall of a much better time in Scientology. A time before it rotted from the head down, and when it actually lived up to its promise.

Thanks also for sharing the wins you had with management tech outside the organization. Those wins illuminate what can happen when Scientology is freely practiced and applied outside the corrosive influence of the corrupt Cof$.

I see that you censored my post.

But you did read it.

Freedom of speech is a good thing.

Allow it.

Your blog will be better for it.

Hi Brian,
Yes – I did read your comment. There are currently several forums where your views can be heard, and where you do make those views heard — on WWP, on ESMB and on other blogs– so I feel no obligation to forward comments that are contrary to the purpose of THIS blog and what is stated in the Welcome message.
Freedom of speech is a good thing and you are welcome to exercise that freedom to communicate your views on those other platforms. At this time, this is the moderation policy being followed.

Hi Lana,
Thanks for the response, but let’s be realistic, Scientologists have never regarded freedom of speech as a good thing. Speech is something to be controlled, and used. It’s permitted to the extent that it forwards Scientology, and no further.

Clearly you are not a Scientologist and as this is a Scientology blog I again suggest you find another platform to practice your freedom of speech. This is the last comment I will be putting through.

The freedom of speech button got me for a minute. But I think this is a misunderstanding of the concept of freedom of speech.
Freedom of speech means you have a right to put or allow be put on your blog what you want on your blog. It means others can start their own blog and do the same. I wouldnt go to an electrical engineering blog/forum and write that everyone should convert to Christianity and that electrical engineering is the work of Satan and expect it to be posted even if for no other reason that it is off-topic and off-subject.

The first amendment “freedom of speech” protects freedom of expression from GOVERNMENT interference. Some people use the “freedom of speech” excuse to disrupt the speech and lives of others. We citizens have the right to censor anything we like on our own private property which is what I consider this blog to be.

Tom,
one thing I notice is perfectly clear-YOU!
Another, that you REALLY duplicate LRH!
No wonder then, that you hold the view of
the power of SIMPLICITY!
Thank you for great relay of key info.

Communication

“As the only crime in the universe seems to be to communicate, and as the only saving grace of an awareness of awareness unit is to communicate, we can readily understand that an entanglement of communication is certain to result. What we should understand – and much more happily – is that it can now be resolved.”
