Replace with new battery pack! |
For you do-it-yourselfers, Mark VII batteries need to be replaced after a few years. Besides going dead and not holding a charge, these batteries can start to leak acid and destroy the components in the meter.
Here is a direct replacement battery pack that is identical to the one being used in the meter and reasonably priced.
It’s easy to remove the back of the meter (3 screws) and remove the battery (two screws). You just use the existing battery connector on your old battery. The connector has a self-splicing connection.

Been doing this with all our meters and they work fine.

Where is Batteries Plus? I'm in California. Can you give me a phone number or address?
Thanks.
It is tricky to get the new wires jammed into the connector properly, I usually use a small flat blade screwdriver. Align the new wire in the slot, place the connector flat on a hard surface, put the blade of the driver parallel to the wire and give it a solid shove to force the wire all the way down into the slot. You don't strip or tin the wire first, the connector is able to bite through the insulation and make a good connection. At HEM they do it with a special tool, but you can do it at home if you just make sure to force it down all the way. If you use a driver that is too big you can bend the connector clips. If you make a mess of the connector, just strip the wire and solder it on, but be sure the solder does not flow down too far inside the connector. If it does you won't be able to connect it!
It is hard to shove the connector in the wrong way, but if you do the meter won't work. Just don't force it if it seems not to fit well.

Finally, I found out the meter may not charge simply because the fuse on the meter's charging board is blown. Check it.
